This ones easy. I wish my M2 wouldn't snap her feathers off and I wish my MSC2 wouldn't scream so much, but she was a rescue and was abused so we're just happy she's well adjusted here. She came to us as a feather shredder with no wing feathers and now after seven months she has all her feathers and doesn't shred them anymore. Karen

Wow! That's a wonderful improvement!
Zazu also plucks, but I am still working on that. I didn't interact with him in the right way when he was younger. I think that is the reason of his plucking now.. Sad
(Not direct reason)

I just count my blessings every day that she doesn't mutilate herself. That is so heart breaking to see. I've seen alot of cockatoos at the rescues that have really bad picking problems. When I see them and then come home my Sammie looks beautiful. She doen't pull her feathers out, she just snaps them, so she's never completely bald. She's still gorgeous to me! I couldn't ask for a better bird. Karen

When she mutilates, please try not to show her that you care for that.. Zazu will pull his feathers even more when I show him I care.. Sad

But, like your baby, he's still one gorgeous guy!

My nine month Amazon is incredibly quiet. She is very social, healthy and in every way a great friend. She says Hello constantly and yhas squawked a few times. Is this cause for concern? Will she get more verbal as she matures?
Thank-you for your input in advance

Cindy

Hi Cindy!

Why would this be cause for concern? Are you worried she won't talk?

No, I knew when I decide to finally take the plunge and found the perfect bird for us, that talking ability was not only not a definite, but also not of importance to us. After only one month, she has changed our lives! We are constantly amazed by how much joy she brings.
Enough of that. My concern is whether or she may be either physically impaired and it should be explored,or if she is in some way emotionally silencing herself.

I started worrying when the other day she was enjoying a steam bath in the bathroom, where once before she let loose with lots of sqawking, I noticed she had her mouth wide open and seemed to be straining to make noise. she was sort of thrusting forward while doing this. On the other hand, she say's "hello" constantly, and coos and growls regularly.

On the positive side, I find it incredible how quickly she has adapted and bonded with both my husband and I. She is smarter than we ever expected, even after reading and researching about 'companion birds'.So she shows no signs at all of neurosis or maladjustment.

Wow, sorry I went on so long.I guess I'm one of those proud parents that can bore you to death.

Thank's for your time!
A new Mother, Cindy[/b]

He he he bore us to death? I think you have to try harder then! Wink

The thing you described can just be normal. My Senegal sometimes seems to scream but all that comes out is some air and then the 'growl'..
Or isn't this what you mean?
