Hi,
Welcome to Fluffies first.
While talking is an important attributte in a parrot. It should not be what you are looking for. I have a good talker in my flock, that has not said one word in two years, this may go on for the rest of her life, but then again she may start talking again today. Big birds like the Macaw all the way down to the little birds like the budgies can and do talk, some can even sing songs.
But you do not want to buy a bird based on this, because then you will be disappointed. It is not at all like buying and careing for a dog or a cat. Study what it takes to care for a bird, then try to find a bird that matchs your life style. Find a good local breeder and an Avain Vet, ask them alot of questions. Then buy the bird that fits you, work with him and with time he will talk as well as many other things that will astound you.

I would recommend an African grey. This parrot will MOST LIKELY talk.
Please NEVER expect a parrot to talk. It's a living being with a mind of its own, just like humans. Some people will become genus in maths, some people will never learn to count till 100.
If talking is compulsory for you to love an animal, please refrain from buying a parrot! |

I'm with Jrmno1 on this one, its a bad idea to get a bird based on just 1 aspect that you want. You may end up with a bird that needs a lot more attention than you can give, which can lead to screaming and self-mutilation. Do your research, ask around, and find a breed that is good for your lifestyle. |

Yes, I wouldn't buy a parrot just for talking. Most of the time they don't learn. Most people want a big, colorful, impressive parrot that sits in a cage all day and yells "polly wanna cracker!" and talks a lot. 2 of my 3 parrots talk, (one's hard to understand) and the other mimics wild bird calls and a toy robin. I'm just lucky, I guess, but talking is just the icing on the cake. I never got a parrot because I wanted a bird that talked. Parrots are A LOT of work. They take up much time and money, and are extremely smart and if they don't get the right stuff and attention they go crazy, bite, scream and pull out their feathers and become phobic. They are like border collies, except louder and they bite harder.
Oh yes, I've never heard of a Florida Parrot and I think either the person is mistaken anotherparrot or they made it up. |
