| HELP ME |
|
|
Lordy I need help.....
Pi (on and off) keeps making these honking noises and it is driving us nuts
I have even told him that I am gonna cook him
Seriously though it is getting serious.... When I spoke to the people that the shop where I got Pi they reckoned that it was because the heating had gone on..... But he has just had a full moult and I thought that he may be going through a mating thing - he is between 2 and 3 now...
PLEASE HELP ME
Fi
p.s. I have even resorted to covering him up which does shut him up |

Hey Fi,
I'm sooo sorry to hear that Pi is making honking noises. I have no clue what you mean with it though but from your post I understand it's driving you absolutely crazy!
What do you mean with heating had gone on?
Could you distract him by dropping something? Could you incorporate that in a clicker session? |

Hi,
Could it be a breeding thing, how old is Pi? All three of our birds that are of that age make "honking" sounds when they are in seasons...
http://www.fluffies.org/en/flu.....ovie_id=94
Listen to the background noise on this Vid. This is a Female Amazon in heat... Other then this, Sue suggestion should work fine if Pi is not in season...
I know this is not much help....sorry....

John,
My hero that deep honking noise in your movie is just it, may be a little higher pitched cos he is a small birdie,,,
He always puts his/her bum in the air (could this mean that Pi is a girl)
Well does anyone have any great ideas or do I just have to live through this, and for how long!!!!!
Thanks for all your help peeps...

Fi,
It is Pi's season, the Vet can give Pi a hermon (sp) shoot. That will last about 30 days, maybe a little longer. But this is an annual event, mark your calander and buy some ear plugs... Amy pertty much does this for about 60 days, but it is different with each bird. We just grin and bear it.

Yes..Pi is a little girl birdie...
Does she have any happy huts, stuffed toys, snuggle buddies, mirrors etc? Take those all out and try not to give her a lot of natural light.
My friends tiel would rub her bum on the cage bars and make a squeaky noise, and I knew someone whose blue headed pi would rub its bum on a mirror. All those are female birdies growing up and hitting maturity! LOL! Pi has hit it now I guess.

It can be anything at all, with Amy it is a child gate we at one time had up to divide the birdie part of the house from the Doggie part. Now the Gate just sets in the conner of the Bird room and she spends about 60% of her out time protecting this gate from the other birds.

If it is hormonal, perhaps you could limit the amount of light? 12 hours sleep, 12 hours awake? |

I had a fun month with my little Budgie in September - & because Tiels or Budgies'll go into season any old time, I had to think of ways to make it easier on me & him. You have to play detective - some birds have certain triggers.
~ Lighting is very important [already pointed out] 12hrs/12hrs & I've been learning that proper Full Spectrum Lighting will help their overall well being if you don't have a southerly location. [Canada is not southerly lol]
~ Reduce stimulation - be it videos of birds, shiny objects, happy huts, nesting materials like paper or fabric - just about anything that you see gets them excited.
~ less seed foods
~ More Exercise to burn off energy - if your bird flies all the better. The Clicker training or just training will be a good thing too as i found that boredom may be a factor.
~ Cage rearranging - both location & interior design - maybe some new toys? ~ puzzle toys - find food games - This will help distract her a little & fill her time & give her a job.
~ The way we handle or 'pet' our birds is also a factor - they no longer are babies. So next to no petting = sexual signals.
Here's a great article that was pointed out to me & I'd like to share it. I ended up printing it out - easier to read as itis long:
