A bigger cage.. maybe  Reply with quote

Well my hubby recently got an e-mail from his mum, and she was wondering if she should get me another budgie for my birthday (this would include buying a bigger cage). Not sure if this is for sure though, she wants me to get some prices but I'm not quite sure what size cage to go for. I saw this:

Would this be an ok size for 2 budgies?

the general rule for budgie cage is that minimum 18'x18'x22' for a single budgie. that size cage would be ok for two budgies provided that they spend a lot of time outside the cage! I would recommend something that is 18'x'18'x24' for two budgies.. they need the length to fly back and forth. Dont even bother looking for round cage, those are useless as budgies lovec having a corner to feel snuggly up to at night. height doesnst' matter too, they are not little helicopters.. so they don't use that as much as the length. the cage you linked to looks ok, but the size seems a little small for two birds. I used to have two pairs indoor, and they their cages are 20'x20'x 26'.

oh, thats for 1 budgie Shocked Eek, and Speckles has been living in a smaller cage than that, good thing he's outside his cage a lot! (he's in a 13 x 15 1/2 x 15 1/2, not including the bottom tray). He loves sitting on top of it and acting like a king.. and eating away at the calendar Laughing Thanks for the advice cheeta!

if you want a BIG cage I got mine at a nice online store and it was well worth the price. I can try to find it for you if you want. I think it was around $130 with free shipping to the continental usa. its like 32" by 21" by 35" with .5" bar spacing.

hehe, yeah that's the recommended size for one budgie. I know of a lot of people with smaller cage than that, but generally they come out to fly alot, so it's ok. My sister in law had a budgie that was in a cage just a little bigger than your Specks, but the budgie only went inside for food and sleep time, and even then sometimes she keeps the budgie outside when she's sleeping. So the budgie was free to roam the room at night too.

Sorry guys, no new budgie. We ended up getting some money from my mother-in-law, it was quite a bit so we bargained that it would be for both our birthdays and Christmas.

I still look at the bird cages when I go to the store though, just to see the prices.

I still hope to get Speckles a new buddy some day to help out with those pinnies of his. But so far no 2nd budgie Sad
