Also get some perches with different diameters to exercise his feet. Maybe a couple of natural wood ones, and a rope one. also when placing the perches in the cage, put the most comfortable one the highest, cuz that's where he will sleep. His feet should be able to wrap around the perch 75%.

I hope so too. Please do keep in mind that living with a bird, even a parakeet is a commitment, one which you should carefully consider BEFORE bringing a bird home. And they are NOT inexpensive to care for properly.
Have you done much research into living with a parakeet, so that you will know what to expect?
I don't mean to discourage you at all, but too often people will take on the responsibilty before realizing what is involved & are not able to keep the bird properly, either leading to neglect, or re-homing, either way the bird is the one that suffers.
On the other hand, of course, IF one is aware & willing to commit to the responsibility, it can be such a great & rewarding experience for both the person & the bird Very Happy

Well, I have over $100 because I was going to get a snake. I read about cornsnakes for over 8 months and then when i finally ordered one online, my mom freaked out and made me cancel the order. She is afraid of snakes.

I started reading about parakeets 2 days ago, online, and Im going to be on this forum a lot so I will know a lot and if I have any questions, Ill ask.

Also, Im going to go look for a job next week so I will have money for vet vists. Im only 13 years old, it will probably be hard to get a job for me but Ill try Smile.

Well, I'm with your Mom as far as the snake Razz

$100 is a start. That probably wont get you a real good cage, but at least a starter. And Hopefully your parents can help you out a bit financially too. Kepp in mind, there will always be toys, food & vet bills to consider.

It's mostly the willingness to COMMIT to the responsibilty of PROPERLY caring for, & loving the little keet that's MOST important. But expense does play a role in the proper care.
And people on this forum are always willing to help with advise & suggestions Very Happy

This is the cage I got from Petco
http://www.petco.com/Shop/petc.....rch_1.aspx

For one bird it was great with plenty of room for toys, etc. (18"x18"). When I got my second bird I got them a bigger one though. But I liked the design of this one and would recommend it.
