| Good cage? |
|
|
I found what I think is a nice cage for my lovebird online. It is kingscages.com (I hope it is ok to post this ) and one of the economy cages. Anyway, here is a picture and info on the cage:

What do you think? Is this a good value or should I do some more shopping?

Looks like a little birdy palace . check the bar width, they should not be able to get their head through it, here we pay around $300 AUD for similar cages, I wouldn't pay more than that for that type of cage. |

Hi,this particular cage is selling for around $200 AUS dollars in Australia and the parrots "pasted" in it, are resized to make it look bigger. You might notice there is no tail for the blue parrot which is a photo of a Indianringneck.Mylo would be disgusted in that pic..he..he..of him keep away from photo's that show birds that are not on them "really" good luck and if l were you keep trying |

I think it's a beautiful cage, and judging by the measurements, and not the picture, it's definitely big enough for 1 lovebird and the bar spacing is perfect too, there's no way my lovebirds could fit their head through 1/2 an inch spacing. King's cages, as far as I know, is pretty reputable and they have really high quality cages so maybe that's why it may seem a bit more expensive than ones in Australia? I also think that everything having to do with parrots in Canada and the United States is more expensive than it would be in Australia, because parrots aren't as common as pets here as they are there because parrots themselves are really expensive to begin with. A cage of about that size here in Canada costs over $500! So to me $275 seems really reasonable, if not cheap.
By the way, did you check out birdcages4less.com? One of my friends ordered a 2 cages from them and he was really happy. And I've heard they also have free shipping in the United States. Justme from this forum also ordered his cage from there and he seemed satisfied. Look at these cages:

Thank you for the link shirin. I was just checking them out. I found one I like, but the bar space is 5/8 inch. Is that too big for my lovebird? I thought 1/2 inch was maximum for them.

I don't know, I wondered about the bar spacing too. That's why I thought the one you found at King's cages was perfect because I've never found a big cage with small bar spacing... hold on, I'm going to put my lovebird's in My Grey's cage to see if they can fit their head through... |

Okay, I just tried, my Grey's cage's bar spacing is almost an inch, I guess 7/8th of an inch, and they can squeeze their head through, and you have to consider that a baby lovebird would also be a lot smaller, so I think 5/8th might be risky? |

I agree. I also do think that I read 1/2 inch is max bar spacing for lovebirds. So am am definitely sticking with the first cage. Unless I find another large cage with good bar spacing for less.
Thank You for your help.

Wait wait! I'm just looking at a tape measure, and 5/8th isn't big at all. It's only like 2mm wider than 1/2 an inch. I think it would be ok! I definitely don't think my lovebirds heads would fit through that. I had a hard time visualizing the size before, but with it in front of me, it looks a lot smaller than I thought. But I think if you feel safer with the other one, you should stick with it it is a really nice cage. |

Good point Greg, I always get the tape measure out to check the size (and to see if it will fit)
Here is a link for another online store, this one has "flight cages" and small "avaries" they're basically the larger cages but with a smaller bar spacing (1/2 or 1/4 inch) and they have a bit of a "roof" on them. they usually come in a box and are around the same price as the similar sized cages except they are meant for smaller birds so they can fly in them.

I'm still deciding on the best cage and price. I just found a large cage (32x20x36) with non-toxic powder coating, stand included, free shipping, for $130. I think this is a really good deal. I'm in the US and cages of a large size are hard to find (and really expensive!) unless I order online. I'll try to get a picture of this cage if anyone wants to see it. What does everyone think? Good deal or no.
