Pet carriers  Reply with quote

Has anyone else seen the port-a-pet carrier on demeters diary page? I found the site but it's only for delivery in the US http://cgi.ebay.ca/Port-A-Pet-.....dZViewItem How are you finding it Demeter? It's pretty cheap and I haven't seen anything like that here.

Nope I hadn't seen that before - my kids would tear that up!

I need to get the acrylic ones.. Once a year they go outside in the shed for me to shampoo the carpets and there isn't enough room for their cages, so for 2 days they are in their carriers and I go out and visit, but they think the plastic is a cool new chew toy!! LOL

That's a cool carrier but I doubt if it would ever hold Picasso?

Parfie, may I suggest a wingabago? Where do you intend to use the carriers? In the car? In the public transportation?

Usually for Vet transpo only anymore and for the 2 days they go out to 'stay' in the shed (mid-late summer where we have a heater out there at night and the neighbors get a party hour during the day) for carpet shampooing.

That's about it.

I don't 'drive' like I used too. Last year I got pretty sick on the road, so I can't do my 'drives' like I used to... therefore the Fids can't go with anymore.

And when I mean drive - I would take off in the fall and drive non-stop - with the exception of cat naps more than 1/2 way across the US. A few years ago I went from West Coast all the way to East Coast and then down to Florida Smile I used to drive to visit family and friends and now I feel like 'my wings were clipped'. I missed my road trip this fall Sad

Your road trips sound like they were a lot of fun Parfie! Probably not for me tho, as I really don't care for long drives too often, but it's nice to see the sights on the road once in awhile!

I have seen that carrier on Demeters page & took notice of it. It's neat, but not big enough for Manu. He's got a cage we bought specificaly for traveling, but it's much too big & heavy & cumbersome for trips to the vet, so we just use a dog carrier which is much easier for me to carry.

Yup Cathy, I so agree - that's what my Fids stay in for the 2 days they are out in the shed. I feel like a bad Mom that they are in dog/cat carriers, but I know they enjoy it also.... if that makes sense.. they get to hear all the noises 'in the wild' and seem fascinated by them. We open the door first thing in the morning when it's warm enough and they entertain the mobile home park and the park entertains them.. it's kind of funny! They whoop it up nice and loud in this Senior park, and I bet the neighbors are very glad when the carpet is dry and the Fids get to go back in. I know the Fids love to be back in their cages, and always seem to be fine .. like yeah they just did the carpet again!

OUCH Winnebago's are pricey, but obviously the right choice for Vet trips. I wouldn't put my Fids in there tho for 2 days, I get the bigger dog/cat carriers, and I like them that they are longer and a bit more roomy.... shrug,... so what if i gotta replace em every 2 years, for now that will have to do Wink Divorce and new 'toy' shopping for the Fids do not go well together - but someday Very Happy

Hey Sue, I was thinking of making something like it myself, since we don't have them here, so it can be whatever size I want and I can make trays for food etc and a perch but make it all so it still folds up into a pouch. When I take him out he likes to be on me rather than in a carrier but some places like the vets he has to be in a carrier and it is hard to both juggle him and the carrier so I thought a collapsably one would be good so he gets the best of both worlds.
Also did you see the sugar glider? some people have them as pets now in an avary.

Yes, I did see the sugar glider in that one! They are SO cute, aren't they? Do you mean people keep them in aviaries with their birds, or without any birds?

Not together, being nocturnal they disturb the birds. But apparently a large avairy set up doesn't need too much modification to be able to keep gliders.
