| Terrified of carrier - urgent! |
|
|
Hi everyone!
I'm flying for a visit at my parents next Tuesday and will be taking Piccollo with me on the airplane (or rather, they say I must hand him in as extra baggage) - just an hour-flight. So I bought this very nice (wooden) carrier specially made for the purpose and recommended by my avian vet. But, get this, Piccollo is terrified of it! He gave it one look when I brought it into my flat and went sitting in the farthest corner of his cage.
I put the carrier on a table where Piccollo can see it all day and often try and put him on top of the carrier, so as to get him used to the idea, and tried giving him treats and toys on top of the carrier, but his whole poor body stiffens up and he immediately wriggles himself out of my hand and flies off the table, very upset.
What can I do? The last thing I want to do is make it a traumatizing experience for him to fly, but I have no option, since I can't leave him with anyone here and will be away for 3 weeks. Please help? |

try to take away his cage and make him live in this carrier for a while to get used to it. it will be short day now so the sooner you start with it the better. otherwise you have no other choise than putting him in there by force and take him with you like that.
can't you change this carrier for another one. maybe it is the material he is afraid of. |
