Omars Exotic Birds Inc.  Reply with quote

Omars is one of my favorite places for birds in southern California. They have 3 locations Lake Forest, West Hollywood, & Placentia you can also find them at omarsexoticbirds.com they are really nice & have all birds from Parakeets to Hyacinth Macaws. They also raise their own birds. They do nails, beaks & wings also. They also board birds. I shop there anytime I get in their area.

I have heard of this store before.. Smile Have you ever seen a hyacint macaw there?

What about boarding birds.. Don't you worry about disease transmission or do they keep the boarding birds in an outdoor area?

WOW, I've never seen a store like that here in Illinois. What a beautiful store, but even if we did have one like that here I would probably steer clear for fear of diseases. I do all my bird shopping on-line. I quess you could say I'm a little paranoid or over protective. Better safe than sorry. Karen

They require all kinds of vacinations before you can board your bird there. I left my Macaw there for just over a week about 8 years ago. He did fine. I take my current Macaw there about once a month to get supplies & have never had a problem. They are very nice there & the prices are great. Isn't the shipping for seed & nuts alot? I pay about $3 or $4 for a large bag of peanuts & I thought shipping would be that much. Where do you shop on-line? I think Omars you can get stuff on-line also.

Hi Steve, I usually do most of my shopping from PetStockRoom. com or DrsFosterSmith. The shipping cost is pretty cheap considering the mark up on a product if I get it from a retail store. I can save almost half on pellets and other foods by buying on-line then I can in a retail store. Pet supplies are pretty pricey around here. PetStockRoom is my favorite. Check out the Java trees on that site. I have two for google. They are beautiful. The other nice thing about these sites is delivery is in two to three days. Karen

OOPS So sorry that happened. My computer wasn't runny right and it said it wasn't going through. Please feel free to delete some of these. I hope that can be done or just pretend I stutter terribly while typing. Karen

I looked at both of those sites they aren't too bad. I still like going to the pet stores & seeing the birds. I like talking to the owners of the stores & getting tips & the latest news of what is going on & what is going arround (like when Newastle was here). I use alot of anti-bacterial stuff all the time. I think our prices for food are cheaper here also. I think Omars (I had a link in another post) sells food online that they package themselves. It has alot of different things in it. I like to give them variety too so they don't get stuck on one thing. I do some rescues & if they end up going to other homes (not usually though) I don't want them to be picky eaters.

I think you have the benefit living in California to have better bird supply stores. My birds only eat veggies and other home cooked foods during the day and at night they eat pellets of many different brands. I mix them all together in a airtight container. The only kind I can't put in the container is Harrisons because it is organic and does not last as long, so I feed that to them separately. They never seem to like the same pellets everyday, they aren't fussy, just like a variety. We only have one bird store in our area and it is so cramped and not the cleanest. I have been in there twice but take a shower when I get home. I'm not to keen on the selling of birds so I have never bought anything from there. I love rescues and I am planning on adding another rescue to our flock very soon! Would love to see the stores out there though. Karen
