Oh, dim is so right Shirin! I certainly hope you don't let this bad experience discourage you in your career choice! And if nothing else good came of your experience at the pet store, you have experienced how things realyy are, or can be! And of course, you did help some of the customers out immensely!

And as someone previously mentioned, not ALL pet stores are like that, I think it's just those that deal in mass quantities of birds, they are only thinking of the profit, not the welfare of the birds Crying or Very sad I'm talking about Petco, PetSmart, & the likes.

I sure hope LooLoo is OK & will be home with you soon!

I won't let this affect my career choice, in fact I am now more determined than ever, because I think we need more people in the field who are there for the welfare of the animals NOT for the money!

Well said Dim.

Shirin, I'm so glad that this won't deter you from what you want to do, and that's looking out for the animals. We definitely need more people like you in this world. Smile

I'm just curious, will that affect the relationship with you and the petshop when it comes to LooLoo, I mean they won't go out of their way to not look after LooLoo will they? I sure hope not. {{{Hugs}}}

No, I don't think they would do that, I didn't leave on bad terms or anything. Also they know that they owe me a healthy bird, otherwise they have to pay for vet bills.

Shirin, I feel for you Crying or Very sad If I was in your situation it would have ripped my heart out to leave but also if I stayed. Catch 22 ya know. I've purchased 2 ferrets from a pet store. My first one being a female, she was sooo tiny and skinny and wobbly. I could have just walked away and said I don't want that sickly little thing, but my heart fell out for her and she seemed to like me at our first meeting. When I get a pet store animal, I consider it as a rescue. I've had my little Jazzy for 2 1/2 years now and she's healthy and happy and gives me non-stop kisses and unconditional love. I've also reasearched where she origionally came from from the 2 tatoos on her right ear. It's sick and cruel. She came from a ferret farm that breeds thousands of ferrets. When the females become "warn out" they destroy them. Their so dispensable. People are cruel and sick for a buck using the lives of GODS creatures to fatten their wallets. I really don't think there is one way to stop the maddness, so that is why I consider it as a rescue when I get a pet store pet. I know I'm not helping by buying pets from stores, but I can't just walk away from them either, it's tough. All I can do is pray that they all get good homes and that customers do their research before buying the kind of pet they get. You can't expect to raise a healthy animal and not know anything about them.

Please, do your reasearch before you spontaniously go and buy a pet. That would be anyones first big mistake.

We definately need more vets that truely care for the animals and their well being. I know there is a dark side to being a vet, but the dark side makes you stronger and better. Be the best vet you can be Wink

I really agree. I hate how some people treat animals as "things" rather than living, feeling creatures. How can people see an animal that they care for in bad shape, refuse to do anything about it, and often times breed it until it dies? Sad I know some puppy mills do this, it's just awful. Pet stores should have to provide where each animal came from and that they regularly check it out to make sure the animals are healthy and cared for. We need more regulation of pet stores and others that manage living things.

I really hope your LooLoo will be ok.
