pick apart toy  Reply with quote

Yey, we finally got Dewey (half-moon conure) to try a toy!!

He is terrified of all bird toys. We thought maybe he didn't like bright colored toys (although he has no problem biting holes in all of our clothes and other belongings, even if they have bright colors!). So, we bought him one of these: http://www.theperchstore.net/stpism.html .

He was still scared of it when we first got it. He freaked out when we put it in his cage. Then we put it on the table and put his favorite seeds into it and he would run up, grab one if it was easy, and run away again. Then I started ignoring him and playing with it myself, moving hte branches around and giving it a lot of attention. Well, that got him over to see what he was missing! Now we stick seeds in it every once in a while and he can spend time looking for them and chewing on the branches.

Later, the more adventurous budgies found that they also could participate in pulling it apart. They like pulling the grass out.

It is really funny that it says the bird can pick it up and carry it around the house, since even this "small" one is bigger and heavier than all three of our birds combined Smile. But sometimes they stand on it and are very startled as it starts rolling under their feet.

I just looked at your homepage. I have to tell you I LOVE halfmoon conures, and you have a VERY cute one Smile To me, they are some of the most beautiful parrots. I think the yellow eye skin, and orange and blue head are gorgeous. I was very close to getting one once.
