Good to hear that she's doing well! Let's hope it'll continue this way! |

Thank you. It is hard on me because, except for her head, she looks pretty much like a dog's worn chew toy! A wing feather is now ready to fall out, too. I have been warned not to obcess over her because she could sense my worry and actually start plucking, but today I tried to count the new feathers on her belly without letting her know it. (Does that mean I am hovering/ worrying too much?) There were at least 24, just on her belly. Her back has new ones, too, and they are brighter than before. |

I think you're worrying too much.. But it's normal, I do that too. I tend to look if there are new feathers too.
Try not to pay attention to it, then one day you'll find that she's all feathered again! |

I think I'd be like you too Meg if I was in that situation. we're just some overprotective paronts.. and proud to be one to some degree.. hehe
I'm glad to hear that you baby has got feathers back and leaving them... fingers crossed that it'll all grow back soon... |

Thanks. I've decided not to take her to the vet because she is still growing in feathers and not pulling any out; still eating, drinking, singing, and playing. I took some pictures with a friend's camera. I don't know if they are very clear, but I will post them if I ever get a computer that can do that. I still haven't heard is anyone else's parrotlet has done this. My impression from the breeder is that it is not so uncommon! (for parrotlets, I presume.) |

Just an update: My bird looks green again, although she still has a lot of feathers to grow. She overpreened her wingfeathers, or else they just completely wore out, but her wings are full of pinfeathers and she leaves the new feathers alone. Her breeder had me up the baths to two day-- and this bird never bathed on her own. I have rigged a little bath for her and leave it for her to use on her own. She has started to splash in it on her own, but doesn't get wet! I spend a lot of time in the shower with her!
I have lots of theories about why she felt it necessary to be so rough on her old feathers. However, one thing I didn't think of until recently is that maybe her old feathers were actually inferior from the diet she was on the first several months of her life, so they didn't wear well. Ideas, anyone? |
