| Question |

I noticed tonight Starr is passing water (urine?). The bottom of the cage had some regular looking feces but I noticed when I was holding her she "went" and it was all water like urine. I cleaned the bottom of her cage and put her to bed a little while ago, peeked in and noticed just colorless liquid. Is this normal? She seems to be acting fine, even a little more playful like she's getting used to us. She started making sounds when we talk to her and she's eating fine. Any ideas? |

Hmmm,
Have you had Starr checked by an Avian vet yet?
Keep a close eye on it....

Woke up this morning and saw normal looking poop in the cage. Felt alot better after that! I know he drank a lot of water yesterday so it could have been that simple but will definitely keep a close eye.
Haven't gone to a vet. My daughter is a Vet Tech. Will make an appointment soon. The pet store gives a 30 day unconditional warranty and a 1 year warranty against bird diseases. |

Forgot to add I got Starr a little play gym. I put it on the cocktail table while I sat on the couch. She loved it! She also loves to be handled but I took your advice and only let her come to me when it's my idea. |

Could it be that she drank too much? Iago has very watery poop and he got checked today: Everything is fine with him.
But I'd let him check by a vet just to make sure. |

Starr is doing great. Thanks for asking.
Her poop looks normal. I called my regular vet who used to take care of my dog & cats. He said as long as everything looks fine and she's eating and acting normal she doesn't need a check up. He did give me the number of an avian vet in case I ever need one.
We more or less have a routine now. She sleeps in a spare bedroom off the living room and spends most days in there while I'm at work. Hubby is home during the day and reports she chatters (makes chirping bird sounds) Although both of us swear we've heard her say "hello" a couple of times in a very low. I've been repeating that word more often than any other.
When I put on makeup in the morning after my shower I do it in the kitchen with a makeup mirror. Always have because I like the lighting in there. Anyway, I bring Starr in there on her playground she sits and watches me or stares at the wallpaper.
When I get home from work I move the cage out to the living room. After dinner I put her playground on the coffee table. She sits there quietly as long as she's on the perch. If she's on the bottom flat part she will fly to the floor. About a half hour before her bedtime I let her cuddle on my shoulder.
I bought her one of those perches. The ones with the round stainless tray on the bottom. Wasn't planning on buying one just yet because I'm afraid it's too high in case she flies but it was a great sale since it was the last one left in the pet shop and a display model. How will I know when she's old enough to be trusted loose in a high place without hurting herself if she "flies" to the ground?
LOL< how's that for an update? |

Hi,
Your bird sounds normal to me and I am not saying anything bad here, but a dog and cat vet you will find, most of them to be fine with Cats and Dogs, but birds? They maybe see one or two birds a month and are not trained to handle thier problems that are unique to birds and sometimes unique to a breed of birds. Please find an Avain Vet, in the long run you will not regret it. We drive almost 100 miles to see ours and it is worth every mile and every penny.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. We've known our cat & dog vet (cats and dogs are gone now) for about 30 years. My oldest daughter worked in that animal hospital in HS and then as a Vetinerary Technician. As you said, he said he only treats a few birds and he gave me the number of am Avian specialist. |

It happens with birds sometimes. Not being a vet or seeing the bird it is sometimes hard to give advice, but occasionally a poop will come out with only urine or very little feces. When they have foods with high water content or they're nervous and pooping a lot it can happen. Those probably aren't the only reasons either... as long as he seems perfectly fine now, I wouldn't worry.
