| Age for sennies first wing clip |

Hi All
I'm new here and I have a beautiful senegal called Ollie. Ollie is 3 months old, I was just wondering how old he needs to be before he has his first wing clip? He flys and lands very well. |

Welcome here!
I hope you'll enjoy your time on this forum..
Have you seen you can make your birdy his own homepage & diary? (weblog)
Please follow the link below to find out how:

I think that if he can fly & land very well, you can start the clipping. First start with a few feathers.. Then trim until he can only fly a 45 degree angle..
Do you know how to clip?
Else you can have someone else do it for you, or perhaps a vet? |

Hi Fruit Loop.
Welcome to the site. I hope you enjoy your stay here with us as well.
Like Sue had mentioned, it's ok to clip Ollie's wing now coz it can fly very well now. The recommendation for the bird's first wing clipped is after it has fledged and learned to fly very well before taking the first wing clip. This help them develop their muscles which will help in their future development and it'll also reduced the behavioural problems that may arise in the future.
Can i ask you if you are experienced with trimming/clipping wings? If not, I would probably recommend the first trim to be done by someone who knows what they are doing like your local avian vet, or breeder or someone that can show you how it's done properly. I've seen way too many butchered job on the bird's wings, and this can harm the bird more than help them. Just a thought that's all if you're not familiar or confident with clipping feathers. |

thank you to everyone, I can wing clip but am used to larger birds as I grew up with a house a garden fullof birds. I will be making a homepage for Ollie and will include pics of my mums Jardines and cag who are Ollies playmates.
Congratulations on getting your new baby senegal I'm sure you will love him/her. |
