| buying a tree for my new Sennie |
|
|
Hi
I will have my baby Sennie soon and have puchased a cage but would like to buy some type of indoor plant or tree which I will put next to his cage so he can climb around on it (kinda like a little taste of the jungle for him).
Does anyone have something that works for thier birds, parrot safe of course....or should I get the vaccum variety. There is a window for the light and the cage has a flat playtop...but I want to spoil him.....Obi is his name. You guys will be sick of me soon as the questions will keep coming, I love this web site!!!!.

hey ya Jan again.
i put a bottlebrush tree in with my budgies before and they stripped all the leaves off the plant!! those things are such destroyers of plant I tell ya.. hehe..
I personally don't have any plant at home for my birds... since the cockatoos will just destroy it, and the budgies well they are more interested in stripping it to the bare bone then uses the branches and twigs like that.. they are silly little things.. hehe
but I'm just curious, what size cage have you got set up for Obi? |

| cage size for Obi |
|
|
Hello again Cheeta
I got Obi a play top cage W-32 Depth- 23 Height- 30(66 with stand)bars are 5/8.
I have heard Sennies like to chew so maybe he will also detroy any plants I give him also.I think good wooden toys and perches are a good chewing thing for him as I hope he will not chew the furniture....gotta keep him busy?, and probably me. |

I think a plant would be alright if he's already got another play gym with toys that he can play with and destroy. it just the matter of finding the right plant that won't harm Obi when he's on it and chewing it.
and that cage sounds like a wonderful cage for Obi. I'm sure he'd be tempted to chew stuff, but I don't know how much of a chewer they are when it comes to furniture, so you'll have to wait and see!!! |

I've never had a problem with my Sennie chewing furniture, I did have an initial problem with her going through the perches faster than I could supply them, so I invested in a couple of hard wood perches which I have in with the soft wood perches, and they all are intact.
Though if the cage is next to anything wooden that the bird can reach through the bars you may have a problem. |

The Birds are home. They arrived today and they have been so busy exploring...then snoozing....then exploring then snoozing, I think they are on round six. They are eating Harrison Pellets for the first time and drinking water. I am so relieved.I am not sure if it is a real willow or plastic gym you have Fluffie sue, will you be putting a picture up. I will post a picture soon. Still working on a second Sennie name. Obi and???.

Wow they are awsome gym's. Feeding is going great, step up training is great, they love thier cage, so I think we are doing great for now anyway!!!.Have you ever heard of siblings breeding together or being aggressive to each other....not that I need to worry yet as they are only four months I think.
Jan.
P.S is your gym easily portable |

Hi Jan.. Thanks, that's a great gym isn't it? The gym isn't portable, you'll have to unscrew it. But I think they will fit in large American cars. (The junior, if you'll detach the legs)
I don't know if siblings are like that?? |
