| Going for a ride?? |
|
|
Hi all! My Senegal is probably one of the sweetest ones you've ever seen - doesn't give me no trouble at all!
I've heard it's best to start getting them used to going around to places with me from a young age and he is now roundabout 5 months. Is it okay if I let him ride in the car with me to the ships at this age already?
More importantly, should I let him sit inside his cage in the car, or should he get used to the car seat itself?
Also, will it be okay for him if it's hot inside the car? I reaaally dont' want him to dislike the ride, it must be a joyful experience for him!! |

Hi Rinske,
About the car: I think it depends on how hot it will be in the car? I am from Holland and about 10 days in the year the temperature will get above 25 degrees Celsius. I know that South Africa is a little bit warmer, but I do not know how much?
Our birds go regularly for a car ride and they love it. We are going to do something special. |

Hi Birddaddy
Thanks a lot for your reply - I don't know anybody on the forum yet and could really do with talking to some people about parrots!
Yiiip, quit a lot warmer here than in Holland - I can in fact see that Piccollo starts panting in the car. So I just have to know for how long he would be able to endure it? And can I let him sit on my shoulder or should he be in his cage? I tried the shoulder the other day but he got nervous and flew to the back of the car, then to the front again, making me also a bit nervous... So now I got him back in his cage again, but it doesn't seem right. Should I just make him used to the shoulder-thing? |

Hi Rinske,
I am a bit worried that you will be watching Piccollo while driving your car. Accidents are not very good for Piccollo.
He also needs his mommy to take care of him.
So please put him in a cage. I use the safety belt for securing the bird-cage.
Do you have air-conditioning in your car?
How hot does it get in your car? |

Yip, I had to drive reaaal slow with him on my shoulder, so I'll keep him in the cage from now on... Thanks!
Uhm It gets kinda hot, I don't know how many degrees, probably roundabout thirty. But with him in the cage I can open my window and it's a lot better (don't have aircon, unfortunately). But the drive is never for long, at the most 4 or 5 kilometres, unless I go away for the weekend and take Piccollo along. Thanks for your advice! |
