Is this normal?  Reply with quote

My little Leo is 7 months old now. I was just wondering if it is normal for a 7 month old Senegal to be regurgitating to me. I don't mind it because I know that it is just a symbol of love.

Good news he has given up on Suri the female Sun Conure. She bit him pretty bad and he hasn't messed with her since. He has attached himself to me. The changes happened over night. He started by giving me long kisses and then he would get on my shoulder and snuggle in my hair. I had to work with him a little bit but now he is letting me scratch his head and he lets me touch his back a little. He always wants to be with me now and if he is on top of his cage he always comes to the edge and makes me give him a kiss every time I walk by. He also likes to snuggle under my neck. I didn't think he would warm up to me this fast since he wasn't hand raised and I've only had him for a couple of months but I'm so happy that he is!!!

That's so great that Leo is warming up to you so quickly Smile He sounds like a doll Heart

Yes, regurgitation is normal, but don't encourage it, because you don't want him viewing you as a mate. When he gets older and becomes mature, it can cause him to become sexually frustrated and behavioural problems can arise. I know it's flattering, but when he does it just try to ignore it and distract him with something else.

What I normally do when he regurgitates to me is I tell me I'm not hungrey and I ususally turn my head away from him. Is this enough?

that's great to hear that he's coming around so soon for ya. Very Happy it's cute isn't it when they give you kisses.. I love how they move their beaks to give kisses.. well Apollo and Achilles do that anyway. hehehe..

Like Shirin already said, Regurgitation is normal, but don't encourage it though. I generally just ignore them, or put them down when they start the motion.. Mind you only Athena does that for me.. hehhe... and only if I scratch a certain part of her face.. hehe... so I gotta stop doing it as soon as he starts the bobbing, and I put her down on her cage or on the table and walk away, or at least turn my back anyway....
