Some questions about feathers and eyes  Reply with quote

I took my first photo of Kiivi - he came out of his cage finally and on the same evening he let me touch his beak - I am so happy, seems there's hope that he will accpet me. I do have some questions though - on the photo one can see that he doesn't have that so-called orange *vest* - his belly is still mostly green - but i can see that he is changeing his feathers - is it normal and does that *vest* develop when he gets older (i am just wondering because i have seen little baby senegal pictures who allready have that yellow/orange *vest*) - another thing is his eyes - he has greyish white rings - I was told that he is 6 months but is it possible for him to allready have those light rings in his eyes or is Kiivi a little bit older than expected? I have also a question about the beak - I have seen many photos of senegals and usually their beaks are much darker, my Kiivi has darker colour on the tip of his beak but near the nostrils his beak is quite light, sometimes it seems to me even pink or beige - is that normal?

I am just curious and like to have as much information as possible - and this is the best place for me to do it!

here's the link of Kiivi's pic- http://www.fluffies.org/en/flu.....php?id=325

Thanks
Wink

Kiq, how old is Kiivi? I believe some months old? I really think that HE is a SHE! She has so many green feathers! Smile

She is beautiful by the way! What a gorgeous girl/boy!

Thank you - yes i think Kiivi is very beautiful - they told that Kiivi is about 6 months - since I didn't meet the breeder myself because he was out of town - I only talked to his friend, who didn't know so much but i was thinking of getting in contact when the breeder is back in Estonia and ask what was the hatch day etc. I have had a little doubt myself that Kiivi might be a girl but who knows - I was just wondering because Kiivi has that phobic period right now but he/she seems to settel quite quickly if I just put in some effort so i am really happy about these little steps kiivi is making towards becoming a true companion friend ( I still kind of like to refer to Kiivi as he - I dont know, maybe because my last tiel was a boy) Very Happy

Hey Kiq, would you consider working with Kiivi according to some kind of 'plan'? It wouldn't take much of your time.. Smile
It helps over here to get some phobic behavior out of my fids.. Smile

Of course I would love to do that, I have read some things but maybe you can recommend me a good internet site or articles or something that you know - I have all the time for Kiivi Wink

Today Kiivi was very interested in my finger so i put it ine his cage and tried it with his beak - he didn't bite but i think he was just trying it out - *what's this*. I didn't move or take my finger out of the cage because i wouldn't want to let him think that this is the way he can *tell* me what to do so I left it there and finally Kiivi just watched it and didn't care much - he wasn't even afraid. Also it seems that when i put my head near the cage where kiiv is sitting he always comes very close to me and seems that he is very interested in my hair, he has tried to catch them few times - all these little things lately have made me so happy - it seems that he is starting to like me - he always checks out the food i am bringing him etc - before he never did that. Very Happy

I would want to teach the step up thing - so I could in some basic level control him - if I want him to get into his cage then I want to be able to do that etc. His wings are not clipped - I am considering but now it is too early, i think he would never come out of the shock after a strange vet has handeled him against his will Confused - hands are still a major problem..
