| Tim attacking Aimee |
|
|
Hi everyone I don't know if anyones experienced this but I moved house about 2 months ago and got my dog Aimee back. The problem now is that my Senegal Tim has attacked her 3 times. Aimee is very used to my parrots and takes no notice of them. Every time Tim attacked her she was just sleeping. He has to get used to her being here so I've taken to making Aimee lie beside me and keeping a plant sprayer to hand to spray him with when he starts to give her the evil eye and it seems to work and of course I never leave them alone. Each time he nipped her on the head, luckily being a Belgian Terveuren she has a thick coat and wasn't hurt. Tim is rescued and was originally wild caught, I've written about him before, when I got him he couldn't fly, now he can home in like a missile. It just shows you can never predict what will happen with parrots as I would have never thought he would do that. Aimee now sleeps with one eye open. I think Tim's jealous as he is very affectionate with me. I can't leave Aimee in another room when Tim's out as she barks when she's alone I used to have her mother Cari too but she died on Christmas Eve and Aimee still isn't used to being alone and I don't want to upset my new neighbours. Has anyone any ideas what I can do about it. |

Hi Julie!
You know, my macaw will attack my dog & my 2 cats if they happen to show up on or near the couch, or anywhere else I may have him when he's not in his bird room. He's never gotten ahold of any of them yet tho, & they've pretty much learned to give Manu his space.
My sennie seems to WANT to attack the cats & dog. Whenever they walk past her cage, she rushes to the lowest point she can get to, hangs upside down & tries lunging at them, it's kind of funny to see. But she's so little I'm afraid of how the dog or cats would react if she ever did get ahold of one them, so I just have to shoo them away before they get too close to her. |

Oh, sorry to hear that Tim wants to attack poor sleeping Aimee..
I really don't know what to suggest to discourage her, may be to actually have Tim partially clipped? so he can't home on in like a missile with a mission? I have trouble keeping my cockatoo away from the cats!! if he's playing with us, he'll make sure that no cats come close. if he's just cuddling, the cats can lie next to us and no problem. Apollo will chase after the cats when he's playing, there's been a few times where I've had to chase after Apollo who is chasing after the cats, and then there's a few times where I almost have a heart attack coz the cat gets cornered and seems like it wants to pounce on Apollo before I can get to him, but I usually tell the cats off when I see that. Just as well the cats know what 'NO' means!!! I hope things get better for all of you, but especially for poor the bin raider!!! LOL |

Ohhh poor poor doggy, being attacked like that! Zazu will go for Nenya too when he gets the chance. Iago won't.
Like Cheeta, I am wondering if you could clip Tim's wings? Things like this might become very risky! |

when we first got Focker he tried his best to go after the dog .... he had absolutely no fear of him ... now he just likes to torment the poor dog ... Focker loves to sit on the edge of his tea stand, wait til the dog gets under him, and then throw food on him ... Boogie, thats the dogs name, is an Old English Sheepdog, so you can imagine the hair on him ... I shaved him down about 2 weeks ago, and while I was shaving him I found bird pellets, dried peas, and spaghetti in his fur ... please don't think that I don't brush the dog, because I do, I just sometimes can't keep up with Focker and his antics .... yesterday we took Boogie to the vets for his yearly vacinations, and while she was petting him she found bird mash in his fur ... leave it to Focker .... |

Thanks everyone for the suggestions about Tim, I think I will have to consider having his wings clipped although after it took him so long to learn to fly again after his rescue it's been something I've been reluctant to consider. I thought he might be jealous because in his funny way he's very affectionate to me and never bites me. As many people using the fluffies site know from my past posts he was wild caught and it's taken a long time to tame him. At the moment the plant mister seems to stop him. Tim would have been the last of my birds that I would have thought would attack the dog which just shows that you never can predict what can happen. |

Sue ... that little Focker will sit and wait for Boogie to get underneath him ...then he will look over at me and then down at the dog ... he does this about 3 or 4 times, back and forth, me and the dog ... and then he will give me that last little evil look , open his foot and drop whatever he is holding ... I'm never sure what I'm gonna find buried in the dogs fur.... |

Hey Julie,
I totally understand your reluctance to trim this guy.. but you can always do the partial trim where instead of seven primary flight gets trimmed, only three do. This stops them from flying at their full ability, but can still fly around the place. Just no more missile on the mission flight to Tim that's all!! |

Thanks Cheeta Tim has damaged flight feathers on one wing which don't grow properly because before I got him he chewed them badly although he's fully feathered on the other wing. He seems to cope well with not being fully feathered. On the damaged wing he only has 3 primary flight feathers and they don't look as strong as the feathers on his other wing. He seems to fly pretty well like that. I think that he would probably need a full clip, what do you think? I'm hoping that he's given up attacking Aimee as he hasn't tried it for about 3 days. Aimee's such a sweet natured dog and she will mix with other dogs and play, also she's good with children. Luckily she hasn't a nasty bone in her body. At the moment I make her lay beside me so I can put my hand down over her head if he should suddenly take off towards her. |
