The only way to know for sure is if you get him tested.
Some say you can tell by the shape of the orange/yellow/red chest which runs al the way to the bottum with females and ends on the belly with males, but this is't 100% sure. |

Sorry made a mistake you should look at the green on the chest. So if it ends on the belly it is a male. |

Like MG has stated above, the only way to know for sure is to have have them tested. This can be done either thru getting blood for DNA testing, or surgically. Altho some people are good at guessing from the individual birds behaviour & markings, it's not 100%. |

Hey Marloes! Nice to see you here..
I agree with both Cathy & Marloes..
There is also the vent area: The triangle, is it orange or green? If it's green it's a female. (MOst likely) |

The undertail feathers of my bird are yellow speckled with green...does that indicate a boy or girl? |

If I look at the photos on your homepage, I see that your senegals green triangle ends on the belly and doesn't go all the way down. According to some people that indicates a boy. However I have a male senegal myself (I had his DNA tested) and if I look at his triangle he seems to be a girl. Especially when a bird is so young as yours it is even harder to see.
So if you really want to know, have him tested .
The vent way that Sue told about only applies to adul senegals I believe.
And Sue, I just came to take a peek at 'the other side' |

Hey Marloes! I'm glad you came from "the other side" to have a peek here ! It's nice to meet you!
I've got a young sennie too, but she's only bout 8 months old, so I know her markings are bound to change still. I call her a she simply becuz that's what the breeder guessed she is. AND becuz I named her Jennie! I don't have any intentions of having her sexed tested tho |

It is nice to be here . It is a shame though that I have to make a new homepage for this part of the site, but I think I will
Breeders usually have a feeling for it. The man I bought my Bob (luckily I picked a boyish name ) from also guessed he would be male.
I wasn't sure if I wanted him tested, but when I got him tested for PBFD about 3 weeks ago, I just had to find out .
I think you have to wait untill they reach adulthood to really try to guess the gender by their markings. |

Are you going to make a home page here on this side? That would be great!
You know, if blood ever needs to be drawn on my sennie for some reason, I'll have it DNA tested too. But I sure don't know how I'd ever get a male name out of "Jennie" if I found out she was a male |

Marloes, you can copy the source of the dutch homepage. There's a button and if you press it, it'll show the code..
Then press the source button in the English homepage.. And paste the Dutch code there. The only thing you have to do then is to translate things.. |

Lol I am not looking forward to translate things
A male name out of Jennie? Would be difficult, but not impossible . Besides I don't really think that the bird would mind to have a name that was originally meant for the other sexe. |

You know, I noticed this morning that Jennies orange V ends almost at the vent, is that possibly indicative of a female? |
