took down all the plastic around the avairy today and noticed that the female quail has a nest hid behind the plastic bush in the corner of the pen. Guess I'll have to start watching for new babies soon Im gonna lay differnt little things in the way along the side of the walls so maybe the babies will have time to get out of their parents way while walking. i have lost more babies because of the parents stepping all over them |

that's cool Dana..
I hope you get little babies too.. and I too have lost quite a few baby quails for one reason or another. it is very disheartening.. so no more breeding quails for me. |

How the first two batches made it I'll never know because I didn't do a thing and they all made it. |

quail eggs should hatch around 16 days... the longest mine ever went for was 23 days... I generally remove their eggs after 30 days. This gives the mother a chance to properly re energise for the next batch of eggs (as they don't eat very well when they are on egg...) |

Leaving for work today I heard the little cry of a baby quail so went to look and one of the females that I didn't even know has a nest had babies. I couldn't stay to look so I'll check them tomorrow. If I look tonight the mother gets off the babies and they can get cold and die. You would know it's gonna get cold the next fee days here in the panhandle, it never fails when I have babies that are just born |

hey Congrats Dana!!! I hope these guys do alright for you...
If you're afraid that they'll get too cold outside.. you can always bring them indoor if you have the space for it.. I would take a storage container line it with news paper and put mom with babies inside and leave them indoor away from the cold... and also smaller container means that the babies will be able to keep up with the mom, and smaller place would mean that mom moves around less so less trampling as well...
Good luck with these little ones. |

Here we go again The quail that I thought had the babies last time has had them this time Well at least they were running around before I left for work I'll check tomorrow to see if they are still alive. Seems like if they can keep up with their mother and stay out of her way while she is walking they might make it These little buggers are hard to raise |

Well....2 babies are still alive . They are up now where there shouldn't be a problem cause they are staying out of their parents way |
