Dad is usually much more gentler than that. he usually holds out until the chick is at least old enough to fend for themselves before 'shooing' them out of the family... I think he was too eager this time...
No more quail babies for me from now on I think.. it's too heart wrenching to see them go unnaturally..
And thank you Sue and John. |

Aaaahhhh Cheeta, I am SO sorry. He was so adorable. Do you think maybe it was the Dad now that killed the others and not the budgies? I had a male tiel once that killed babies right in the nest. How sad this is.

no, it was the budgies before. The dad was a very devoted dad a week ago... but only since yesterday that he had wanted to mate, that's when they are known to go from devoted father to murderous father. and unfortunately this time I didn't see it coming as he's been a great father for two clutches of his babies. |

So sorry about the other babies. Its so upsetting when things like that happen. Glad that at least one survived though. It is really adorable. I love watching mine running after mummy or daddy and im sure your little one will do really well. |

So sorry Cheeta. When I posted last I didnt look to see if there where other pages so I only saw the first one. The poor little baby! Its really upsetting when u lose them like that. I wouldnt give up altogether though. You could try taking the male out when its close to hatching time if he wont make a good dad. The female is capable of rasing the babies on her own. You would have to keep them in the smaller cage but it might be worth a try. I know how it feels though. I've almost given up heaps of times when my cats used find ways of attacking my quails all the time. Sometimes if you take a bit of a break from trying you can think of solutions. Good luck with whatever you decide. |
