My quaker is just 4 months old....do they normally molt that early?

I'm not sure about quakers, but I do know that my budgies have their first molt around that age....

Not many...actually it's not feathers persay but those little fluffy things that fly off once in awhile...sorry, don't know the name for those unless those are considered feathers Confused

You're probably talking about their down feathers. they are the feathers that keep birds warm at night. Smile They regulates their body temperature.

When birds molt, they tend to loose the down feathers first, then slowly to the major feathers like the neck, tail or wings.

Oh thank you so much for answering my question. It is the down feathers now that you mention it. So is it normal for them to start at this age? You must be online now...because I just sent this out.

Well Like I said, I'm not familiar with Quakers, but I guess quakers are pretty small bird, may be they do molt this young like the budgies. Not sure though... Might have to check with someone who has quaker knowledge. Sorry.
