My quakers are in separate cages. Both have a supply of twigs for nest building. Cruzer is constantly building and remodeling and Sweet Pea just ignores the sticks. Is this a gender thing or are some just more industrious than others? These birds are not sexed, by the way.

My Emmie does the same thing only I have given her straws! She loves to rearrange them and if one is out of sorts oh boy! does she get upset and won't stop until it is just so. I am trying to remember what I have read about them and their nest building, I don't think it is related to their sex but just to their nature....some are more adept in building than others just as some are more prone to speak than others. I used to visit a quaker site and they had a picture of their quaker and it's home.....some how managed to make a nest out of hangers around the cage! They are really quite good at this!

I have read that quakers are great nest builders and in the wild they make elaborate nests. That is why some states forbid you to have a quaker because if they escape and manage to survive(which they do quite well) they make these big elaborate nests sometimes in places where people don't want them. I've included a couple of links to more imformation about quaker nests. The one link has some pictures of nests in the wild.
