Preventing diseases

Today Iago, Zazu and Nenya joined me on a trip to the beach. It was a cloudy day, hardly any sunshine so I thought this was a great day to introduce the beach to Nenya. She wouldn't have to bother sunbathing people now because it was too cold to walk around in a bikini or swimsuit.

Iago wasn't interested in joining me at first, he was much more interested in retrieving something nice from his treat toy..

In a minute, I'm busy now mommy!

And he also seemed to be quite busy swinging.

I'm still busy..

Eventually I could persuade him that it was a good idea to join me on a trip to the beach. :-)

When we arrived at the small village near the beach there was a small festival. Some local thing.. Lots of people came to ask about Iago & Zazu. If they wouldn't fly away, if Iago was Zazu's kid (LOL!), if they joined me every time, if they could pet them etc.. I also heard this question: 'Do pink birds exist?' :-)
Iago made lots of new friends. He especially LOVES children, he is extra gentle with them, and he won't use his beak when he steps up with children. He can be such an angel.. There also was a big tough man that melted just where he standed as soon as Iago stepped up.

Nenya really liked the sand, the beach was all new to her and she ran around like mad. She didn't really like the waves and the water, but the shells were just fine! Nice for chewing.. (I had to tell her to drop them every minute!)

Digging...

When I put Iago on the sand, he didn't really like it. He came running to me immediately. I guess he didn't like his feet sinking into the sand. :-) Then, he was blown away by the wind, just a small distance, but this let me decide that he was not allowed to run around on the sand anymore. I didn't want to risk loosing him to the wind..

Mommy! I'm too small to walk around on my own!

Zazu didn't like the sand at first, on the picture below he is running like crazy, untill the wind got under one of his wings. Then he learned to keep his wings close to his body and to walk backwards if he wanted to walk in the direction the wind blowed.
This went just fine, he learned!

WOWOWWW! That almost went wrong!

On the picture below he is just happy, letting the wind play with his feathers.. (At the moment he is preening himself to get all the dirty sand out of his feathers! Iago is preening too!)

That's better!

On the picture below Zazu seems to wonder if his feet are that big? He saw a foodstep and looked at it as if to say: 'Hey, are those my prints? I can't remember to have such big feet!'
Doesn't he look cute?!

Hey! I thought I didn't have such large feet?!

Iago decided that the wind was too much for him. He tried to find a shelter between the towel I brought with me and my neck. He really liked it there.. Zazu was too busy viewing everything that was happening around him, the sea gulls, the waves, the sand that was blown around him. He was really impressed!

Nice and safe with mommy..

Iago thought it was OK to view all those impressions safely from my neck. He must have thought: I have a good view from here, just let my pink brother tell me all that I miss when I get back home!

It's good over here.. Zazu, keep your eyes open and tell me all about it when we get home!

When we arrived at home Nenya was exhausted. She went laying in the cupboard (on a low empty shelf) as if to say: Close those doors and let me nap!

Close the cupboard doors please, so I can sleep!

Iago and Zazu are terribly quiet at the moment, trying to get those grains of sand out of their feathers.. :-)

*** Disclaimer & warning PLEASE READ ***  As you can see on the pictures, my parrots were walking around freely on the sand. What you can't see is that they are being watched the whole time. Please beware of your parrots being blown away by the wind. If you're not feeling safe, or if your parrot is a very small species (cockatiel, Senegal parrot etc) I'd recommend putting a harnass on when you take your parrot to such a windy place! One blow and your parrots could get miles away from you!
Let's think it this way: Better safe than sorry!
